So you want to start promoting your site but you just don’t have a clue how to start.
Well then, dear reader, you came on the right article.
I’ll explain you a few things you should do before you start promoting.

First of all you should make yourself a banner, or a couple of them. To make a simple 468 x 60 banner you can learn in my “Make an advertising banner” tutorial.
All you’ll need is adobe photoshop and a wish.

You can make:

• 468×60 banner
• 250×250 banner
• 125×125 banner
• 125×80 banner
• 88×31 banner
• 80×15 banner

The most common is 468 x 60 banner, so it would be a good start to you if you make one.

Now, let’s assume you have your banners ready.
Next thing you should do is to prepare a good description and title for your website.
Don’t even think to start promoting if your site is under construction.

How to promote
You have many ways to promote.
If you’re writing some original content, or you offering some original content to your visitors, finnd sites where you can submit your content.
This method will bring you a lot of traffic. Targeted traffic.
Take as an example this site. I’m offering free and easy web design and development tutorials.
In a first month of existing i got a reasonable amount of traffic. I’m pretty statisfied.

Link directories are also good for your promotion. You can submit there your site to. Look for directories with higher page rank.

The simplest promotion techinque is to simply ask a webmaster of another site if he wants to exchange links with you.
Send him an e-mail, ask him for links exchange, tell him why do you think it would be good for both of you to exchange links…etc
But, remember, before you’re sending an email to another webmaster make sure you published his link on your website,
cuz if you didn’t a lot of webmasters will refuse your offer. That’s not good.

Also, make an affiliate page where will you list all your affiliates and your banner & link codes.
So that another webmater could simply ask you to exchange links…
