In this tutorial you will learn how to add a simple but effective taped down effect to your
photos. You will make you photo to look like you taped it onto a wall or something else.
Use a photo of yourself, your girlfriend/boyfriend to make her/him an nice digital gift.
You can even use a scanned paper, it will make a cool looking picture too…
1. Create new document, any size that fits you and use any background.
2. Open up a photo on which you want to add this taped down effect.
Place it to document which have you created in first step.

3. Now we will make this picture a bit rotated. Hit CTRL + T and rotate it a bit.

4. Now, we will make a tape, cut off tape.
So, make new layer.
By using your Rectangular Marquee Tool make a selection 120 x 60 pixels.
Fill it with white and add a following layer style to it.
Stroke

Change the Fill of your layer to 30%. This is how it should look now.

Now, by using Lasso Tool (L) make a selection like on picture below.
Make sure that you’re on you tape layer and press delete.
This will add cut off effect to our tape.

CTRL + D to deselect and here’s what I’ve got.

Repeat this for the other side.

Now copy this layer three times and place each layer on different corner.
Rotate them (CTRL + T) so that they fit into you picture.

Cool…isn’t it?
To get more realistic effect you could make each tape for itself instead of copying tape layer.
But even this ways it’s cool.

Yes, it’s not so realistic, but it serves good for tutorial purposes.
You can play a bit with it and it would turn out awesome effect.

hmm…it’s probably because you’re making a selection in empty layer.
Click to an layer that is filled with something, make a seletion, and then again click on that new empty layer.
Hope you understood me.
